PROGRAM:
DAY 1.- HUARAZ -
CHIQUIAN - LLAMAC - CUARTELHUAIN.
The port of entry to the trail is Huaraz, a nice town in the Andes,
surrounded by beautiful mountains, called Cordillera Blanca. Departing
on a private vehicle, taking the road that goes by
Conococha, going towards Chiquian and
continues to Llamac on the new road, heading up the valley , passing the
village of Pocpa, Palca, arriving to Cuartelhuain. Camp.
DAY 2.- CUARTELHUAIN - MITUCOCHA LAKE.
This is a medium day, the trail goes to the Cacananpunta Pass.
From here you will have a great view
of the mountain side. Going down to the valley and arriving close by to
the lake of Mitucocha. Camp.
DAY 3.- MITUCOCHA - CARHUACOCHA LAKE.
Starts up to the Pass of Carhuac, arriving to the
Carhuacocha lake, which is one of the highlights of the trail. Here you
will see the Yerupaja, Jirishanca, Siula just above the lake, an
spectacular view. Camp.
DAY 4.- CARHUACOCHA - HUAYHUASH.
After breakfast starts the trail
to Huayhuash. There is two trails to the next camp one is by the
Carnicero Pass, long day and strong hike, were you get to see three
lakes lined up. The second is by the normal route. This decision is made
by the group, its according to the fitness of the persons. Arrival to
Huayhuash. Camp.
DAY 5.- HUAYHUASH - VICONGA.
Walking up to this pass were you get the view of the Raura Range. Going
down next to the Viconga Lake to the valley of Cuyoc.
There is a hot spring about 20 min. from the campsite. Camp.
DAY 6.- VICONGA - GUANACPATAY.
Day starts with a walk towards the Cuyoc Pass, having a splendid site
view of the mountain range. As you go down you will see these amazing
rock formations and a deep valley in the puna. Camp.
DAY 7.- GUANACPATAY - HUATIAC.
This day, starts the walk to the Quebrada Calinca, heading to Huallapa
where a steep climb starts to get to Huatiac. Camp.
DAY 8.- HUATIAC - JAHUACOCHA.
Early in the morning the hike starts, this is a long and hard day, with
two passes to be made. First the Tapush Pass and second the Lauche Pass,
where the scenery of this impressive group of peaks appear. Heading down
into a small valley to arrive to the Jahuacocha lake. Camp.
DAY 9.- JAHUACOCHA - LLAMAC - CHIQIAN - HUARAZ.
This day the climb starts toward Pampa Llamac, having good views of the
area. Going down this zigzag trail to the bottom of the valley, were
this small village of Llamac is located.
From here, you start back, on this dirt road on a private vehicle
through the Achin valley, and arriving to Chiquian to continue
on a paved road to Conococha and heading to the Callejon de Huaylas, ending
back in Huaraz.
*NOTE: The trail can be done in 12 days (+2 rest days) and 14 days (2
rest days + Siula, "Touching the Void"). This is private
service, on request, only.
